Share your tree as a website

Here's the age-old genealogist's headache: you've spent years gathering the family story, and not one of your relatives owns the software to see it. One click fixes that — Settings → Data → Export family website…

What you get

A folder of ready-to-open web pages:

  • index.html — a searchable list of everyone (works offline, and forgives missing accents),
  • tree.html — the whole family as a clickable chart, with a fullscreen button,
  • a page for each person — their facts, parents, marriages, children, photos, and a little clickable tree centred on them,
  • all your photos, copied in alongside.

Double-click index.html and it opens in any web browser, straight from the folder. No server, no account, no app needed to look.

Keeping living people private

Anonymizing is on by default — and not only here. Anyone likely still living (no death recorded, born within the last 100 years) appears only as "Living": no name, no facts, no photos, in every export — the family website, GEDCOM, PDF reports, and the SVG images of the tree and the map. That includes the chart and even the page filenames. A couple with one living partner keeps its shape in the tree but gives up its own facts.

Two switches, both in Settings:

  • Anonymize living people on export — on; you turn it off deliberately, when the file is for your eyes only.
  • Export scope — share everyone, or just one person's branch (their ancestors, or their descendants).

Backups are the exception, by design: a backup never anonymizes, because its job is to rescue your data, not to publish it.

Getting it to the family

  • Zip it and send it by email, WhatsApp or on a USB stick — they just open index.html.
  • Put it online on any static host (Cloudflare Pages, Netlify, GitHub Pages…) if you'd rather send a link; add a password there if you like.

Little touches

  • How many generations the mini-tree shows on each person's page is a slider in Settings (0–3).
  • The site speaks whatever language the app is set to — English, Polish, German, French or Spanish.
  • Re-export whenever you've added more — the web address of each unchanged person stays the same, so any bookmarks the family saved still work.
